Altar Server Ministry

For centuries, young people have been an important part of the Mass, and you can play a very important role in the celebration we call "the source and summit of our faith"...serving the Mass. Being an Altar Server, means serving God and God's people at Mass. As an Altar Server you will have the privilege to assist the priest and the deacon around the Altar. As an Altar Server, you will carry the cross at the start of the Mass, help with the incense and holy water, hold the sacred books for the priest, and assist the priest or deacon to prepare the altar for the liturgy of the Eucharist by carrying the sacred ves- sels (bowls and cups) to the altar. You will also lead the people who bring the gifts of bread and wine to Father.

To joyfully serve St. Joseph community in prayer and in action, you will be taught the necessary moves and responses in order to assist the priest and deacon around the altar. The only requirement is that you have received your first Holy Communion, and are ready to be trained in serving God at the Altar. For more information about this rewarding ministry.
